(Invoking supernatural powers to influence events)
Hmm!
I believe that life is full of magical events. For me, everyday is a magical event.
I came across a book titled Fanciful Stitches Colorful Quilts by Laura Wasilowski. It is a book of happy small quilts. I really wanted to have some fun spending magical time making a happy quilt and use some of the embroidery floss (that has lived in the upstairs closet for years!).
This is it! It’s called Nice Neighbourhood #2 in the book but for me it’s Happy Homestead Neighbourhood.

What images come to mind – black magic, chocolates, magician, magic wand, magic hat, rabbits out of the hat, sawing a woman in half and on and on and on. But look around you there is magic everywhere, in the sunrise, the sunset, the first cry of a baby, the waves crashing onto the shore, flight, rockets to space, the leaves turning in autumn, the first snowfall, stars in the sky, mist on the lake, the world through the eyes of a child, first signs of spring, a simple act of kindness. And the biggest one of all from nature is the northern lights, the aurora borealis.
My new technique to try was reverse appliqué, thread painting of the light on the hills and on the lake and a touch of paint on the land for reflection. I machine quilted a magician’s top with some cards flying out of the hat and I embellished with beads to represent the stars.

I had just gotten home from watching the birth of my second grandchild Olivia Kate when it was time to think about getting this quilt done on the theme of magic. What is more magical than birth and more than that the birth of a grandchild. And the magic will continue as she grows up into a lovely woman.
