Temptation by Colleen
As soon as I heard the word “temptation” I thought of cupcakes.
Why?
Then, as time when on, I thought of butter tarts, fabric stores, wine, sunshine, vacations, Forillon National Park, amethyst mining, etcetera.
So I went back to Cupcakes because they were the easiest.

When we were first given the word Temptation a lot of things came to my mind, but the more I thought about it I couldn’t decide what I was tempted by. I wondered, should I do something that represented traditional things we as a society are tempted by – money, food, drink, CHOCOLATE, sex. I kept coming back to the thought – what was I tempted by. I decided nothing really – I could have pretty much anything I wanted. There were no boundaries really – Mike didn’t care if I bought too much fabric or spent too much time on the computer or in the garden or drinking wine. So what tempted me that I couldn’t, shouldn’t have??? TEMPTATION what was it?
A temptation is an act that looks appealing to an individual. It is usually used to describe acts with negative connotations and as such, tends to lead a person to regret such actions, for various reasons: legal, social, psychological (including feeling guilt), health, economic, etc. Temptation also describes the coaxing or inducing a person into committing such an act, by manipulation or otherwise of curiosity, desire or fear of loss.
Well that pretty much summed it up for me. As I said - I could have pretty much anything I wanted. Resist came to mind – resist what? I don’t know – then I thought about the very first temptation – Eve giving Adam forbidden fruit – an apple. This will have to do.
The technique I wanted to try was thread painting. But I found this lovely bit of black fabric. I wondered if I could pull the colour out to brown as I could see the brown in it. I used a glue resist and drew my apple shape then used a bleach pen on the fabric. I had to do several applications to get it to the brown i wanted. Then I was ready for the thread painting – NO – I wasn’t – this piece called for gilding so I applied the glue and then the gold. Quilted the background and applied a ribbon for the leaf.

My “temptation” is meant to depict a dream cloud, and, as you can see, my dream would be a Stanley Cup win for the Vancouver Canucks – my team!! If you turn the dream cloud over, you’ll note that the back is a dark sky – you see, I’ve had this dream before, so I know enough to hedge my bets again this year!!
My new technique this time consisted of making the Canucks logo. I downloaded it from the internet & traced it onto fabric. Then I filled in the color using Prismacolor pencils and heat set it. I guess it’s OK, but I would have liked the color to be more vivid.
Now, all that remains is to see which side of the piece can be displayed!

My biggest temptation would have to be fabric and beyond that would be batiks so I decided to play with a few batik scraps.
