Rendez-Vous by Geri
This word conjured up a plethora of images but the one that stuck was meeting – a meeting of family – MY family. We have a family reunion periodically and to me it is a “RENDEZVOUS”.
We come from North, South, East and West. We come by land and by air – hence the circles – representing automobiles, RV’s and trains – and the flying geese – representing by air.
The technique I have been dying to try is paper pieced flying geese.

Oh my gosh, RENDEZVOUS!
What, yuck, rendezvous, why?
These words are really making me think.
Rendezvous – a meeting place, appointment, haunt, assignation, meet, come together Aha, that’s why I thought convergence.
Convergence – approach, tend to meet. Hmmm!
The first thought that came into my mind was to do a convergence square because I’d never done one and really need to be pushed into trying new things. I tossed the thought for quite awhile. From walking with Judy, I knew that she had done a convergence square and I didn’t want anyone to think I had copied. Nothing else came to mind so I got out the Ricky Tim’s syllabus and went for it (rather conservatively). And if someone wants to think I copied so be it.
Then I decided to use my shaving cream died fabric on the back; I called it my Monet when it was one, pale piece. Now, I’ve quilted it into a basic scene, little converging and rendezvousing of thread. Hmmm! So, rather elementarily there are mountains, water, long, long grass and no ducks. I was going to try ducks but sometimes you have to quit when you think it’s “okay”. If I’d machined in ducks, I likely would’ve had a nondescript bunch of thread to pick out.
And so my creative brain is trying to rendezvous with my more creative brain but we hit a major construction zone and things may not be complete in this lifetime.

Turkey Vulture Rendezvous
Every September a large number of the Turkey Vultures from Vancouver Island rendezvous in Metchosin. The vultures congregate waiting for favorable wind currents for their flight across the SalishSea to the Olympic Peninsula. They then travel to California and Mexico for the winter. The birds will do a number of test flights checking the flight conditions before they set off and several hundred birds can be seen circling the area.
This block is called Birds in the Air. I quilted the block with lots of swirling air currents.

‘A place were people meet; meeting place agreed on.’
Many such meetings take place at Tim Hortons coffee shop.
I used silhouette figures to show the people.
The outside fabric I have had for years waiting for the right project.
I found it.
On the back in the parking lot are the police cars that also rendez-vous at Tim Hortons.

I am trying to use each Tenfold project as an opportunity to learn a new technique or to try something I’ve never done before. So, for this reason I decided to do a convergence as my interpretation of “Rendevous”.
As a further learning effort I got together with Colleen & Geri to try fabric dyeing using shaving cream and the microwave oven. We worked outside on Colleen’s patio on a beautiful sunny day and had a great lunch and many laughs!! Oh yeah, and we even dyed some fabric too – some of which turned out great and the rest – not so much! Anyway, I used a piece of my dyed fabric from that day in my convergence.
The convergence instructions I followed came from the syllabus for the Ricky Tims seminar Colleen and I attended and they called for 4 different fabrics. I thought I could make it work with the 3 that I liked together, so proceeded to make it. I think it’s only OK and for sure would use 4 different fabrics next time.

For me quilting is all about color and of course purple is my favorite so i decided to show the rendez-vous between blue and pink to create purple.
