Solitude by Colleen
Solitude – state of being alone; loneliness.
Dandelion – a yellow flowered wild plant.
I like to see the yellow dandelion off on its own, swaying in the wind almost saying, “See me, I’ve may have grown in harsh conditions but I can sway happily in the breeze. I’m not alone; there are others coming along.
And so, I link the independence of the dandelion with solitude. It can enjoy being part of an entire field of bobbing bloom or stand alone.
I like being alone and I am not lonely. For me solitude is a positive state. A place to ponder, reflect, enjoy, appreciate and live.

Solitude by Geri
Oh what a wonderful, delicious word. Alone – but not lonely. I LOVE solitude – to be ME, MYSELF and I – to read, work, play, create on my time answering to no one. Now, how to represent that. I thought of a soaring eagle, a fly fisherman on a quiet stretch of river, a wonderful walk in the woods – oh so many images came to mind. But I pulled on my favourite image – the Blue Heron – who stands alone – in solitude – waiting.
I used various techniques on this piece some knew to me and some tried and true. I have always wanted to do trapunto – used that to make the body of the heron stand out. I printed a picture onto fabric – this I have done a few times. I did embroidery and some free motion quilting to make the picture stand out – I think I could have done more but sometimes less is more and too much of a good thing may just spoil the final product (although I have been told “you can’t spoil a good thing.

I live in the forest. It is so peaceful and quiet here that if there is a deer out in the yard you can hear him chewing the grass. It is a wonderful place to find solitude.
