Me – it is all about ME.
ME – ME – ME – ME - ME.
I found a quote by Virginia Satir which starts like this – “I am Me. In all the world, there is no one else exactly like me. Everything that comes out of me is authentically mine” So I wondered who am I? What make ME; – ME? So my piece represents all the things that I do and love.
First of all I love green and bright colours. I am a Mother of three – hence the Teddy Bear (oh, and I love Teddy Bears). I am a Grandmother of three as well – so the three hearts. I love to sing and I was in a quartet and sang bass. I love the theatre – on stage, backstage or in the audience. I love to garden. I like to travel and I work and I play. I love the outdoors in any form – observing, hiking and kayaking. I caught a registered Tyee. My passion is creating – quilting, painting, sewing and anything using paper. I cherish family past and present. And – heeheehee - I love wine.

Me! Where do I start? What do I include?
What makes me the person I am?
The 12 X 12 block shows some of the things that are important to me and which make me tick.
The Church represents my beliefs and shows how to be ME.
The house represents the home I share with my husband of nearly 50 years. Family is vital to me.
My three children, Susan, Michael and David,
are symbolised by the three hearts.
The four stars represent my grandchildren.
Alexandra, Lara, Madison and Julia.
Music is an important part of my life, I have a degree in that subject and I taught it. I was a music director and organist for 20 years. Now my grandchildren are playing the piano.
My family and friends are scattered, so the suitcase shows some of the places I go to keep up with them. Every visit results in new experiences and more happy memories.
I love quilting, knitting and crafts, shown here by the sewing machine. I enjoy the various quilting groups I belong to.
We have had a couple of other dogs but I have always wanted a Scottie or Westie.
The flying geese show the three places where we have lived;
England, Ontario and BC.
The half square triangles represent family and special friends.
No room for any more of me in a 12 x 12 square!

As I was trying to decide how I wanted to represent “me”, “The Quilt Show” website, to which I subscribe, offered a show featuring Yvonne Porcella. I had never heard of this woman before, but decided to watch. She apparently is known worldwide, teaches around the world, has a quilt in the Smithsonian, etc., etc. Anyway, suffice to say – she was new to me. A part of her 1 hour session dealt with creating faces, so it was really timely for me. Her faces were all quite bright and funky and she talked about surrounding the face with what is in your head or on your mind. Thus was born my idea for “me”.
As you can see, I just drew some odd shapes, transferred them to mismatched fabrics and made the face, and surrounding it are some of my favorite things.
Starting at the top I have put pigs (which I collect) laughing/partying and laughing is definitely something I like to do.
Beside the pigs is a bit of food, which represents the fact that I like to feed people and I also like to eat. Please don’t feel a need to comment on the Freudian slip which puts the pigs next to the food!!
On the right is a likeness of our spoiled little poodle and the shoes to indicate that she and I like to walk.
Across the bottom, and therefore closer to my heart are some quilting tools and the fact that there are so many of them is meant to indicate that quilting is really the main thing that recharges my battery and nourishes my soul.
So, there you have “me” and please don’t fail to notice the earrings – I also REALLY like diamonds!!

This spiral represents me this Christmas season. Between a round of social engagements, work, quilting, planning a vacation, family and Christmas itself I was feeling a bit twisted at times.
The background fabric reminds me of the cosmos. I placed the spiral a little off center as I’m a little off center at this time of year.

As usual lately, I fussed about the latest Ten Fold word for quite awhile.
I still have thoughts of a more ambitious project but realize that I don’t have the time or energy to produce right now.
There are a couple of very personal, safe places for me. My number one place is with God. I know I can snuggle anywhere in His creation and He will keep me safe.
I realize that I have made His creation a little whimsical but that’s okay. I represented myself snuggled in the little pod on the left. There I am appreciating all I’ve been given.
Secondly, I am the most blessed person I know. Like most people, I have wonderful children and a loving, quirky, slightly dysfunctional family.
More importantly, in my day to day life, I have the most fabulous friends. I can’t even begin to express how thankful I am for them and I truly wonder why I am surrounded with such loving, supportive people.
If you look on the back of my square, right behind me are many gold dots. They represent my loving friends.
I like to have them right behind me because I might need them, they might need me or we might just want to be together. Truthfully those dots should be full blown diamonds sparkling very brightly because my friends are the brightest people on Earth.

It was my big idea to do the topic of 'Me' and then I was stumped as to what to do. So I searched for pictures of myself that depicted the different aspects of my life that define me.
Me the wife
Me the Mom
Me the Gramma
Me the quilter
I have loved the hexagon as long as I can remember so chose to use it as the basic shape
I love swirls so found the star fabric with swirls.
I love purple so had to add a few hexagons in purple.
And the blue striped fabrics at top and bottom are arrows pointing inward .....after all...it is all about ME!
